Carol Arlene Reed Ayers, daughter of Chester Harry and Geraldine Almendinger Reed, was born, January 18, 1939 in McConnellsville, Ohio. She departed this life, November 15, 2017, in her home, at the age of seventy-eight years, nine months and twenty-eight days. On December 19, 1986 in Bloomington, Illinois, she was united in marriage to Robert D. Ayers; together they shared twenty-six years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Robert D. Ayers, grandson Jeremy Smith and daughter-in-law Gayle Hiller Smith. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Smith of Camdenton, Missouri, J. Reed Smith and wife Anne of St. Roberts, Missouri, John Edward Smith, Jr. and wife Shelly of Friendswood, Texas; five grandchildren, Justin Smith of Olathe, Kansas, Mikayla Adams of Kansas City, Missouri, and Joshua, Jacob, and Jonah Smith of Friendswood, Texas; three great grandchildren, and a sister Jane Faber of Ohio, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Carol was raised in Ohio, where she was saved at an early age, and later moved across the majority of the Midwest with her husband and sons until they settled in Bloomington, Illinois. In her spare time Carol enjoyed crafting and making sweatshirts with sequins for the family. She also enjoyed decorating for Christmas and had a tree in every room of the house. Carol was an avid photographer and was also a certified Hypnotist. She was a loving wife, mom, aunt, grandma, and great grandma and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton, Missouri.
