Frances Laura Gilpin, daughter of Charles Joseph and Minnie Pearl Williams Meyer, was born December 16, 1920, in Mansfield, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, June 16, 2016, in Glendale Gardens Nursing and Rehab, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety-five years and six months. She was united in marriage to Wayne Farmer and following his death, she married Ray Gilpin. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; sons, Bill Farmer, Rodney Gilpin, and an infant son, Wesley Farmer; three grandsons, Shane Farmer, Jeffrey Phillips, and Joey Vaught; and one brother, Clarence Meyer. She is survived by her children, Dr. Wayne Farmer, of Manasquan, New Jersey, Warren Farmer, of Republic, Missouri, Raylene Vaughan, of Windsor, Missouri; Pat Vaught and husband Rick, of Climax Springs, Missouri; and David Gilpin and wife Donna, of Lake Tahoe, California; seventeen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Meyer and wife Elizabeth, of the state of Utah; and a sister, Rose Watson, of Springfield, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Frances was born in Mansfield and as a child ate cookies with Laura Ingalls Wilder on her back stoop. She attended Cosmetology school in New York and returned to Missouri, where she met and married Wayne Farmer. She later attained her license in cosmetology and owned and operated many beauty shops throughout the years. She was also an instructor at several cosmetology schools during her life. Frances had accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was a member of the Sedalia Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was very involved with Maranatha International, and following their retirement, Frances and Ray served as Camp Rangers at Camp Heritage for many years. In her spare time, Frances loved working in her garden, quilting, and had made many beautiful quilts which she donated to those in need on her mission trips. Time spent with her family was very important to her and she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. She was also an avid reader, and read her bible daily. Frances was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016, in the New Horizons Seventh-day Adventist Church, Republic, Missouri. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service, Monday, in the church.
