Ruth M Claussen

Ruth M. Claussen (nee Reedy), daughter of George Ernest and Mamie F. (Freese) Reedy, was born on March 19, 1930 in Tipton, Iowa. She moved on to better fishing grounds on July 6, 2017, near her home in Camdenton, Missouri at the age of eighty-seven years, three months and seventeen days. Ruth was raised in Wilton, Iowa and graduated from Wilton Community High School in 1948. A few weeks later, on June 6, 1948, she married her first love, Rolland John Claussen and with him raised four children. Together they shared fifty-seven years of marriage. She was preceded in death by husband Rolland, her parents, two brothers, Donald Reedy and Gail Reedy, Sr., and two sisters, Francis Neibergall and Gladys Dekkars. She is survived by two sons, Kent Carroll Claussen of Idaho Springs, Idaho and Randal Rae Claussen and wife Tuy of Porterville, California, two daughters, Candice Marie Boggs and husband Roger of Phoenix, Arizona and Tamara Kae Ingwersen and husband David of Scottsdale, Arizona, a sister Jeanette Lowe of Minneapolis, Minnesota, lifelong friend Richard Wallace, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends. For the first twenty-one years of marriage, she lived in Wilton where she and Rolland owned and operated a small gas station called the Claussen DX and raised their four children. In 1969 they moved to Tipton, Iowa where Ruth owned and worked at her store, The Gift Shop and later at The Cove Restaurant. In 1978, the couple headed south to the Lake of the Ozarks. For 17 years, they operated the rustic Singing Hills Resort and brought many wonderful lake memories to families, including their own. Grand kids visited every summer and learned to swim and fish and were put to work making beds and chopping wood to earn their keep. When Grandma Ruthie and Grandpa Rollie sold the resort in 1995, the two moved closer to Camdenton, Missouri to the home she lived in for the rest of her life. In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed quilting, sewing and tending to her garden. She also loved to play cards at the Camdenton Senior Center, which she helped establish. It was there where she reconnected with Richard Wallace and they spent the next ten years together traveling to visit family and meeting the great grandkids popping up around the country. Her constant joy these past years were fishing on the pontoon boat. Together with Rich, they would fill their freezer with catfish and at Christmas, they’d drive to Arizona and and have a fish fry for the extended Claussen family. Besides cooking, she loved to play and win at the Casino. She was a member of Methodist Church in Camdenton and was generous with her time volunteering at the Camdenton Lamb House for families in need and the Dogwood Animal Shelter. Ruth was a wonderful, caring, and loving person, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend. We celebrate her full life and many accomplishments and will treasure in our hearts, the memories she created for her family and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2017 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton.
