Albey Guffey

Albey Leroy Guffey passed away June 3, 2010 at Laurie Care Center in Laurie, Missouri. He was born on August 14, 1944 in Rolla, Missouri to Madonna and Edwin Guffey. He was united in marriage to Constance Lewis on January 16, 1965 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Rolla. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Madonna Guffey of Rolla and his wife, Connie, of Camdenton. Other survivors include his sons Cary Guffey and wife Tamie of San Antonio, Texas and Chris Guffey of Ft. Myers, Florida; daughter Amanda Carroll and husband Danny of Camdenton; grandchildren Dane, Megan, Carter, and Travis Guffey of San Antonio, Texas; Chelsea, Allison, and Taylor Guffey of Ft. Myers, Florida; and Mac and Lily Carroll of Camdenton; brothers Bill Guffey and Shirley of Coleman, Wisconsin; Richard Guffey of Ashland, Missouri; Ronald Guffey and Ella Rae of Belle, Missouri; Jim Guffey and Sara of Columbia, Missouri; Joe Guffey and Dora of Ashland, Missouri; and Steve Guffey and Nikki of Newburg, Missouri; sisters Marilyn Hoke and husband Rodney of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Darlene Bramel and husband Mark of Rolla, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. Albey graduated from Newburg High School in 1963, after which he worked for the Frisco Railroad and Foremost Dairy, owned and operated Snoopy's Restaurant in Rolla, and worked for Grellner Distributing. Upon moving to Camdenton in 1975, he was the manager of Grellner's local warehouse and later worked for many years for Mike Shepherd Chrysler. He was a member of the parish of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Camdenton for 35 years and was an active member of Knights of Columbus Council 6365, including service as Grand Knight and a two-term state district deputy. He coached numerous Little League teams and was a devoted fan of the Camdenton Lakers football program, rarely missing a game until recent years when poor health prevented his attendance. The family thanks the staff of Laurie Care Center, the Brother Knights of Council 6365, and the staff and clergy at St. Anthony's for their care and support the last several months. "Big Al" was a loving, fun, and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His memory will bring a smile to our faces for the rest of our lives. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Camdenton. Burial will follow in Allee Memorial Gardens, Camdenton. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Laurie Care Center and left at the funeral home of the church the day of the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
