Alene Davis

Vera Alene Davis, daughter of Ben Harrison and Ethel Lee Whitener Strother, was born June 26, 1933 in Claremore, Oklahoma. She departed this life Monday, March 24, 2008 at her home in Montreal, Missouri at the age of seventy-four years, eight months, and twenty-seven days. She was preceded in death by her husband Chuck Davis; a daughter, Brenda Musser; a grandson, Johnny Musser; and a total of five brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Rick Michael and his wife, Mary, of Stover, Missouri; daughters, Jackie Straub and her husband Ted, of North Carolina, Kathleen Michael, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, and Wendy Ruble and her husband Terry, of Montreal, Missouri; her grandchildren, Nikki of Durham, North Carolina, Derek Michael and his wife Katie, Cody Musser and his wife Sonja, Charles and Becca Michael, and Tiffany and Valorie Rudolph; seven great-grandchildren, Hailey, Elizabeth, Dai'ja, Belle, Katherine, Joshua and Johnnie; a sister, Alma Chappel, of Muskogee, Oklahoma; her long time dog companion, GiGi; a number of young adults in the Montreal area who were like her grandchildren; many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Alene was born in Oklahoma and lived there until moving to the lake area in 1968. She enjoyed fishing, growing flowers, and in her younger years, raising a pet cow or two. She enjoyed animals very much. Ms. Davis took her last short trail ride on her horse, Ranger, in September of 2007 with her daughter and much loved son-in-law, Terry. Ms. Davis was very fond of her upbringing in Oklahoma and had great pride in her Cherokee Indian heritage. She had fond memories of growing up on and near the Will Rogers ranch in Claremore, and felt great pride in being an "Okie" Ms. Davis loved the country life and was always one to offer a cup of coffee to her visitors. "Ma Davis" never seemed to meet a stranger, nor hesitated to celebrate those she knew with their personal photos she proudly displayed on her kitchen wall which she nicknamed her "Rogue's Gallery." The family of Ms. Davis is very appreciative of these friendships as well as the diligent, caring and personal long time medical care provided by Dr. Buddy Brayfield and his wife Colleen. Alene was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton, Mo. Burial will follow in Freedom Cemetery, Montreal, Mo. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dogwood Animal Shelter or the American Lung Association.
