Alice Clay

Alice Elaine Clay, daughter of Virgil D. and Mary L. Dodson, Ray, was born, November 9, 1945 in Jackson County, Missouri. She departed this life, Monday, October 3, 2016, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri at the age of seventy years, ten months and twenty-four days. In March of 1962 in Linn Creek, Missouri, she was married to Robert Hunter and to this union four children was born. Then in Rich Hill, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Paul Clay and to this union they became the parents of their grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Robert Clay; her husband, Paul Clay; two great-grandsons, Ashtyn Sufficool and Landon Sufficool; brother, Robert Ray; sister, Bonnie Black and sisters-in-law, Jan Ray and Ruby Ray. She is survived by her children; Tracy Clay of Archie, Missouri, Carmin Sufficool and husband Tim of Stoutland, Missouri, Melissa Dubuque and husband Steve of Ellisville, Missouri and son Lance Clay of Mound City, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; her siblings, James Ray and wife Geri of Richland, Missouri, George Ray of Tribune, Kansas, Don Ray and wife Sandy of Orriville, Washington, Wanda Danner of Eldon, Missouri and Pat Martin and husband Ed of Laquey, Missouri; her brother, Roger Stewart and wife Tammy of Rich Hill, Missouri; brother-in-law, Kenneth Black of Pomme De Terre, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Alice was born in Lee Summit, Missouri where she started elementary school before her family moved to the Camden County area and called it home. Although she did not graduate from high school, she attended cosmetology school and became a cosmetologist. In her younger years, Alice worked as a cook and waitress and then went to work at the Lee Factory. She also owned and operated the Mini Mart in Metz, Missouri. Alice was saved at a young age and was of the Baptist faith. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, playing games on face book and looking at family pictures. She loved listening to music, especially that of her very talented family. The thing that she enjoyed the most though was being Nanny to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving mom, nanny, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016 in Myetta Cemetery, Camdenton, Missouri. Burial will follow in Myetta Cemetery. Dinner will follow at the home of daughter Carmin Sufficool and husband Tim in Stoutland, Missouri
