Allen Douglas “Doug” Smith, son of Theodore Roosevelt Smith and Yuma Sarratt Smith, was born, October 1, 1944 in Collins, Missouri. He departed this life, April 23, 2021, in Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of seventy-six years, six months and twenty-two days. On April 27, 1963 he was united in marriage to Connie Jones and to this union two children were born. Together they shared nearly fifty-eight years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father Bob Wilson. He is survived by his wife Connie Smith of the home; a daughter, Angela Long & David of Olathe, Kansas; a son, Derald Smith & Shelly of Cameron, Missouri; three grandchildren, Cassie & Ryan Burkhart, Madeline Long, and Aaron Long; two great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Burkhart and Nash Burkhart; a brother, Joey Smith; a niece, Elizabeth Smith; as well as other relatives and many friends. Doug was raised in the Kansas City area and was a graduate of Van Horn High School. After graduation he went to work for AT&T as an electrician and was a member if the CWA Union. He and wife Connie purchased a home at the lake in 1981 and later moved there fulltime in the early 1990’s upon Doug’s retirement. Doug was an active member of The Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and the Elks Lodge. In his spare time, he loved to fish especially when he was the catcher of the biggest catfish or crappie. He had a real passion for time spent with his family, hunting, watching Nascar, and cheering on his Kansas City Chiefs. Two things Doug truly enjoyed was get togethers with a cold beer in hand to share stories while listening to classic country music, and road tripping with his neighbors. He was a loving and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the many memories he created for his family and friends. The family would like to publicly thank all the staff at the Laurie Care Center for their kindness and care they had given Doug during his stay. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home and are incomplete at this time.
