Carl Eugene Hunter was born on December 13th, 1941 in Commanche, Oklahoma, the son of Tillman and Florence Hunter. The family moved to Linn Creek, Missouri, in 1945 and this became the place Carl would forever call home. Carl grew up an avid sports fan. He was a member of the very first Camdenton Laker Football team and even scored the first touchdown in Laker history. From here, Carl went on to play college football at the University of the Ozarks in Arkansas. Here he met the love of his life, Patsy Sue Grace and the two were married on June 13th, 1965. The Hunters moved back to the Camdenton area where Carl served as a teacher and a coach for 30 years. Over the course of his 30-year tenure, he helped to shape the lives of countless students and athletes; perhaps none more than the 1973 Camdenton Laker Track team that he led to a State Championship. He was also an assistant football coach for years where he built numerous relationships and was a part of continuing the Laker Tradition. As a PE teacher at the Upper Elementary, Carl started the game Scooter Soccer, later establishing the tournament that is still enjoyed today. After retirement, Carl stayed busy running the family farm, assisting with track meets, and watching his family grow. Carl was an active member of the Linn Creek Baptist Church where he could be found helping in the nursery or serving as a deacon. No Christmas program would have been complete without his peanut brittle and popcorn balls. An avid hunter, Carl enjoyed traveling the state hunting birds with his buddies. He especially had a passion for turkey hunting and guiding. He also enjoyed deer season on the family farm. None of theses adventures meant more to him than sharing the love of the sport with his greatest blessings, his grandchildren. Carl is survived by his loving wife, Pat, of the home, his son Brad (Tori) Hunter, daughters Anna (Matt) Ford, Becky Whittle, and Sara (Cody) Bull and 9 grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Bill, Tom, Robert, Donald, Jim, Roy and Richard Hunter, by sisters Laura DeVenney and Bertha Rogers, and brother in-law Dr. Larry Grace. Carl was preceded in death by his parents Tillman and Florence Hunter, brothers Guyan and Willis Hunter, sisters Louise Kauffman and Wilma Houselog and in-laws Jack and Anna Grace. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 16th from 4-6pm at the Linn Creek Baptist Church with the funeral to be held at the church on Wednesday, May 17th at 10am with burial following in the Hunter Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Linn Creek Baptist Church or Hunter Memorial Cemetery.
