How can we define one's life, it's meaning, it's purpose? Jim Henson defines life as something that is meant to be fun, and joyous and fulfilling. Colin Michael Misenheimer lived by these words. He lived his life as a continuous celebration. He was quick to make us laugh with his wit and his funny faces and gestures. Colin made the most out of life by loving his family and friends and seeking out what made it most entertaining.
Colin arrived 8 weeks early on the 7th of February, 2006 in Springfield, Missouri to the proud parents of Charles and Lisa Misenheimer. The 5-pound bundle of joy was welcomed by his big sister, Kylie Hammerich (Misenheimer), his loving grandparents Steve and Joyce Triplett and Mike and Barbara Misenheimer, and 2 very excited Aunties Stephanie Murray (Triplett) and Chrissy Broome (Misenheimer).
Growing up, Colin's life was full of forms of entertainment whether that meant family vacations to the beach, going on Gator rides at the farm, gaming with his friends or cousins, participating in sports, or simply watching and quoting his favorite lines from SpongeBob. And when he wasn't being entertained, he was entertaining others.
Family and friends were important to Colin. He was always free of judgement. Colin wanted to hear all sides of a situation before giving advice. It is often human nature to find fault in things but Colin sought to find the positive. Many of his classmates have said that what made Colin a good friend was his compassion for others and that he would truly listen.
From birth Colin displayed strength and determination which would later lead him to success in cross country. Colin had tried many sports but his heart was built for cross country. Colin joined the cross-country family his 7th grade year and devoted most of his time to developing his physical and mental stamina. Colin lived by the following quote, “Run often. Run long. But never outrun your joy of running.” (Julie Isphording).
Colin was motivated by goals he had set for himself and dreams of the future. He dreamed of going to college at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he wanted to study environmental science and become a meteorologist. This was a dream of Colin's since he was 3 years old when he often wanted to watch the Weather Channel. Colin recently applied and was accepted to Mizzou. After his campus visit to Columbia, he was set on being a future Tiger.
Colin Michael Misenheimer was loved by many and adored by all who knew him. He was able to bring joy and laughter to our lives in which he will continue to do as we rejoice in our love and memories of him. Adlai Stevenson once said, “It is not the years in your life but the life in your years that counts.” Colin made it count.
