Delores Grace 'Dee' Bates

DELORES GRACE BATES Delores Grace Bates, passed away, May 31, 2015 after a short illness, surrounded by her family at her home. Delores was born in 1934 in Jane, Missouri to Ilent and Ella Carnes. She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Gerald R. Bates. She was the loving mother to Nancy, Cindy (Wanda) and Mike (Kathy). Delores cherished her siblings, Ilent and Nancy Carnes of Derby, Kansas, Dwight and Cathy Dean of Hutchinson, Kansas, Rich and Sharon Garn of Eugene, Oregon and Larry and Ree (deceased) Bates of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Brenda, Doug, Vonda, Sherry, Michelle and Amy (deceased) all loved their Aunt Delores. Delores was grandmother to Tracey Morrow and Shaun Bates and great-grandmother to four beautiful girls. Delores was especially fond of her many cousins and stayed in touch with them throughout her full life. She was a good friend to many and loved spending time chatting on the phone or meeting up for harvesting or shopping. Delores loved the adventure of travel and lived in Mt. Hope, Kansas, Los Angeles, California and Hutchinson, Kansas before opening Bates Market in 1979 in Camdenton, Missouri. She held many positions in her working years, building mobile homes, cashiering, serving ice cream and retired from Walmart in 1998. Throughout her career she was a full time homemaker with a knack for creating wonderful meals for her family. Delores was a gifted craftsperson and avid gardener. No funeral services will be held. Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
