DR. FRANZ VANDERPOOL Dr. Franciscus Vanderpool, son of William Vanderpool and Paula M. Danse Darvin, was born, December 27, 1954 in Surabaya, Java, Indonesia. He departed this life, Saturday, March 26, 2011, in Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of fifty-six years, two months and twenty-seven days. On December 14, 1985 in Camdenton, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Denise Marie Von Gunten and to this union four sons were born. Together they shared twenty-five years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife, Denise Vanderpool; four sons, Adam, William, Samuel and Alexander "Scamp" Vanderpool all of the home; his mother, Paula Darvin and husband Dr. Ted of Stroud, Oklahoma; siblings, Maureen Young and husband Mike of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Nancy Peyton and husband Todd of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Michael Vanderpool and wife Mitsuko of Corona, California, P.J. Brun and husband John of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Dr. Ken Darvin and wife Lisa of Stroud, Oklahoma and Matt Darvin of Chicago, Illinois; his parents-in-law, Rev. Richard and Nancy Von Gunten of Camdenton, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Larry Von Gunten of Jefferson City, Missouri and David Von Gunten and wife Kerri of Camdenton, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Franz spent the first six years of his life in the Netherlands. The family then moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin. His early sense of adventure led him to the Boy Scouts, where he earned his Life Scout achievement. He was a graduate of Waukesha South High School in the class of 1973. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy as a medical corpsman in Korea and Okinawa, Japan. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he attended the University of California San Diego. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. While in medical school he served in the National Guard for six years as a captain. He spent his twenty-three year medical career at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri in the Emergency Department. Franz achieved his American dream; brought to this country as an immigrant, served his country in the armed forces to then become a successful doctor. He pursued his interests with a passion. He loved traveling and deep-sea fishing. Loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and was a member of "HOGS". He loved music, boating on the lake, tropical warm weather and fun. Franz found great joy in making others happy. Most of all, his wife and family were his passion. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He was a compassionate, dedicated physician, as well as a great neighbor and friend. He served his fellow man in the military and in the medical community. Franz was a good loving man that will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2011 in St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Mr. Richard Von Gunten officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Laughlin Cemetery under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. All are invited to attend a reception in the church hall following the burial. Memorial donations may be made to Lake Regional Hospital Emergency Department and left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service. Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
