Edward Dean Thompson

Edward Dean Thompson, son of George and Rose Wanda (Bowles) Thompson, was born April 1, 1942 in Gainesville, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, November 3, 2018 in the Neighborhoods, Columbia, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years, seven months, and two days. On June 22, 1988 in the British Virgin Islands, Dean was united in marriage to Cathryn Hamman and together they have shared the past thirty years. Dean was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, of Camdenton, Missouri; two sons, Edward D. Thompson II of St. Louis, Missouri and Michael Scott Thompson of St. Louis, Missouri; two grandchildren, Michael Scott Thompson II and Mia Thompson; a sister, Janice Pyle and husband Don, of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Greg Thompson and wife Jo, of Joplin, Missouri; an aunt, Opal Beasley and husband Jim, of Gainesville, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Dean entered into the United States Navy in 1960 and faithfully served his country until being honorably discharged in 1963. Shortly after being discharged from the Navy, Dean began his career with the General Electric Company, working in both management and sales. He was devoted to his career and won numerous sales awards and was a recipient of the “Pinnacle Club Award for Sales Excellence.” He was also sent on various trips, including China and Hong Kong, as rewards for his achievements in sales. Dean retired from General Electric after thirty plus years. After his retirement, Dean and Cathy moved to the Lake of the Ozarks area in 2001 where Dean pursued his passion of boating and fishing. Dean had made a profession of faith and was a member of Harper Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a past member of the Sports Car Club of America and participated in many car rallies, auto crosses and Formula One races throughout the years as a Corner Worker. In his spare time, Dean loved travelling, especially to the Caribbean Islands. He enjoyed nature and was an avid reader. Dean cherished the time he spent on the water, and whether it was in his cabin cruiser, or on his fishing kayak, he felt at home there. Dean was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Harper Chapel United Methodist Church in Osage Beach, Missouri. Lunch and a reception will follow in the fellowship hall. The family requests no flowers and that donations be made instead to the Disabled American Veterans, the Salvation Army or Share the Harvest Food Pantry in Greenview, Missouri.
