Elizabeth Anne "Betty" (Morrison) Mcguire

Elizabeth Anne (Betty) McGuire was born on June 26, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the fifth of six children born to George William Sr. and Setta (McDowell) Morrison. She entered her Heavenly home on November 20, 2024 in Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 26 days.

Betty as she was known or “Betsy” (on the Morrison side of the family) moved to Montreal, Missouri from Clay County, Missouri as a young girl.

Betty attended school in Montreal as well as Camdenton High School. Completing 11th grade in Camdenton she eventually acquired her GED.

On August 14, 1953 she was united in marriage to the love of her life John Robert (J.R.) McGuire in the home of J.R.’s brother-in-law, T.O. (Buck) Marler. Uncle Buck performed the service.

To this 70 years of wedlock three children were born, Susan Kay Cross, Malcolm Douglas (Joyce), Robert Alan (Peggy). Fourteen grandchildren, Chris McGuire (Lynette), Tony Webster (Chelsey), Chris and Tony had a special relationship to their grandma Betty, as she helped raise them as sons. Todd Cross (Dee), Tiffany Tryon, (Scott) Sara Hynes (Mike), Lori Hill (Randall), Levi McGuire (Mary), Lydia McGuire, Landry McGuire, Ethan McGuire (Autumn), Racaiah Kornoely (Justin), Seth McGuire (Alysia), Lincoln McGuire (Victoria), Abigail Metscher (Luke). So far there are twenty-three great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren. Betty was blessed with several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In the first 20 years or so Betty was primarily a home keeper. She saw to the many duties necessary to the functioning of a household such as cooking, cleaning and seeing to the children’s needs. She was truly a help “meet” for J.R. As he worked various occupations providing for the family, he could rely on her to keep things at home. Often a challenge with three children in the home; one of the last things you wanted to hear as one of her children was, “you just wait until your dad gets home”. That meant she had reached her end of dealing with you and dad would be summoned to intervene. A situation best avoided if possible.

During the mid-1970’s Betty began working from home selling Stanley Home Products and Tupperware. She enjoyed meeting people doing the “parties” as well as selling quality products. This allowed her the flexibility of making money and being at home more than a traditional job would allow.

J.R. gave his call to preach in April of 1967 and began a life long ministry of preaching and pastoring churches in the area. Betty supported him in the ministry helping to see his needs were met so he could fulfill that vocation. She saw that supper was on the table and the kids were clean and ready to go when he got home from work. Often to travel many miles to hold a meeting or fulfill another of the duty’s ministers are often asked to perform.

Grandma Betty will be missed. She enjoyed life and liked to laugh but was ready to go be with her creator.

The most important thing Betty would want anyone to know about her was that she had made her peace calling and election sure with God. She would tell how once as a young girl she had been told at a church that she was saved. She said she was alright with that until one time during a church service after she and J.R. were married, that an unexpected sorrow began to fill her heart during the preaching of the Word. Encouraged to pray to God about it, she testified afterwards that she found a true and certain peace. That was something she wanted her family, friends and acquaintances to know. She was a member of Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church, Decaturville, Mo.

Proceeding her in death were her spouse, parents, her son-in-law, Jack Cross, four siblings, Anita Decker, Wilma Kirkland, George Jr. Morrison, Harlen Morrison; survived by her youngest brother Thomas Morrison.
