He is survived by the love of his life, Karen Burns, of the home; son, Brian Barnhart, of Leipzig, Germany, his mother, Joan Barnhart, of Glen Burnie, Marlyand; two sisters, Cheri Robinson, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, and Melissa Barnhart, and partner Tanya Gillespie, of Olathe, Kansas; a brother, Danny Barnhart, of Pasadena, Maryland; a step-son, Tony Burns and wife Chrissy, of Camdenton, Missouri; a step-daughter, Trista Gunn and husband Avery, of Climax Springs, Missouri; his grandchildren, to whom he was known as PaPa, Ariana and Brody Gunn, and Mckenzie, Paige, Brayden, and Emily Burns; a number of nieces, nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Gary was a graduate of Andover High School in the Class of 1982. He entered into the United States Army following his graduation and worked as an MP. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1993. Gary spent his next years working on various ranches and farms throughout Tennessee. He made his way to Missouri in 1997 by accident. He was walking from a ranch in Tennessee to a ranch in Minnesota when his dog, Henry, was injured on a ranch in Lebanon. Unable to find help for Henry in Lebanon, Gary made it to the Dogwood Animal Shelter in Camdenton at which time he was told that Henry needed time to rest and heal his wounds. Gary would end up making Camdenton his home. He was an avid reader, cook, and gardener. He was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Ravens football team, and was interested in history. Gary was a talented woodworker and participated in the Camdenton Farmer’s Market where he sold his woodworking items there every Saturday. Gary had also spent many years working at Save-A-Lot Grocery Store where he felt like family. Gary was a loving companion, son, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends.
