Gertrude Marcella Swearingin

Gertrude Marcella Swearingin, daughter of William H. and Matilda Anna Bourdan Van Blatz, was born, August 16, 1923 in South Bend, Indiana. She departed this life, Sunday, January 13, 2019, in her home, Edwards, Missouri at the age of ninety-five years, four months and twenty-eight days. On September 3, 1940 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Asbury Swearingin, Sr. and to this union eight children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three children, Thomas Swearingin, Sr., Anne Hall, and Peggy Swearingin and her siblings, Katherine Hook, Arthur Rupley, Gordon Van Blatz and Ivar Van Blatz. Survivors include her children, Asbury W. “Jack” Swearingin, Jr. and wife Anya, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Larry Ray Swearingin of the state of California, Peter Swearingin and wife Dorothy of Loris, South Carolina, Dick Swearingin of the state of New York, and Roberta “Susie” Ash of Edwards, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Marcella spent her younger years in Indiana. She moved to Missouri where she met the love of her life, Asbury Swearingin, Sr., in Richland, Missouri. Following their marriage, they moved to Florida and later back to Missouri. Marcella settled in the Lake area in 1975 and remained there until her passing. Marcella was a warm, compassionate, and supporting mother that would do anything for anyone and treated everyone she met like they were one of her children. Marcella was a loving mother and grandmother, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2019 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cable Ridge Cemetery, Climax Springs, Missouri. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m., until 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton, Missouri.
