Gilbert Shipman

Gilbert Leroy Shipman, son of Aubrey and Lottie Libby Shipman, was born, October 11, 1924 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He departed this life, May 12, 2017, in Osage Beach Rehab and Health Care Center, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of ninety- two years, seven months and one day. On October 15, 1955 he was united in marriage to Verda Allene Rooffener. Together they shared fifty years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Allene, and son Mike Marshall. He is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Masters and husband Wayne of Flower Mound, Texas; his two sons, Bob Marshall and wife Joyce Ann of Camdenton, Missouri, and Jerry Wayne Marshall and wife Brenda of Camdenton, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Marshall of Camdenton, Missouri; grandchildren, Misty Rogers and husband Larry, Missy Burnau and husband Michael, Jerilie Marshall, Shawn Marshall and wife Melissa, Lance Marshall, Kathy Kester, Jennifer Schmick, Paul Webb Jr. and Susan Webb; eleven great-grandchildren; brother Turner Shipman of Kansas City, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Gilbert was a lifelong resident of Camden County, and attended Camdenton High School and Kemper Military School and College. He then later attended St. Louis Pharmacy College where he left to serve in World War II in the United States Army Air Force, where he taught celestial navigation. Gilbert owned Brown-Shipman Barbershop and later worked at Butts Barbershop until his retirement. Gilbert made a profession of faith and joined the Baptist Church when he was fourteen years old. He most recently attended New Home Baptist Church. Gilbert was a member of the Linn Creek Lodge #152 A.F &A.M. and Missouri Trapshooters Association. He enjoyed visiting the Senior Center, eating lunch and playing billiards. In his spare time Gilbert enjoyed shooting trap, trout fishing, quail and pheasant hunting, reloading ammo, archery, photography, and riding his motorcycle with Allene. They took many trips to Hot Springs, Arkansas. While shooting trap, he was at one point the Champion of the North and South America Trapshooting Association. He was a loving husband, dad, uncle, brother, grandpa, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends.
