GRACE CAVE Grace Danuser Fudge Garrett Cave, 94, of Plainville, Illinois formerly of Mendon, Illinois passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 9:59 p.m. in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Warren Bringaze near Plainville, Illinois. Grace was born on January 4, 1915, the youngest of nine siblings, one having died in infancy, to Friedrick "Fritz" and Lydia J. (Wilson) Danuser near Linn Creek, Missouri. Grace's mother died when she was ten years of age. She then lived with her oldest sister and husband, Emma and Henry Krahl and John E and Flo Danuser. Grace was the first one of her family to graduate from high school. She graduated from Linn Creek High School in May, 1935. Grace married William Paul Fudge on June 15, 1935, and to this union twin daughters, Pauline and Maxine, were born. Paul Fudge preceded her in death on October 13, 1942. On August 17, 1944, she married Lester J. Garrett of Montreal, Missouri, a widower with five sons, Robert, Donald, Wayne, Phillip, and Roger and she loved them as her own. Lester preceded her in death in June of 1972. On March 9, 1975, she married Darvin Cave of Sigourney, Iowa, a widower with three grown children, Phyllis Shafer, Darvin Jr., and Francis. Grace and Darvin lived in Sigourney, Iowa until moving back to Mendon in June of 1976. Darvin preceded her in death on July 6, 1993. While a teenager, Grace was baptized and professed her faith in the Freedom Church of Christ. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mendon. While living on the farm near Montreal, Missouri, Grace decided to go to work at the International Shoe Factory in Richland, Missouri and worked there for over six years before she and Lester moved to Mendon, Illinois in August of 1957. Before retiring, Grace held various positions with Fuhrman Plumbing and Heating, Tenvorde Lumber Co. and for John O'Brien at the Mendon Elevator. She also worked at Richard's Electric and Putnam Dye in Quincy and the Terry Brothers in Ursa. Grace loved planting flowers and raising a big vegetable garden and canning the fruits of her labor. She always felt if she sat down to watch T.V., her hands should always be busy. One could always find her crocheting, embroidering, knitting, quilting or sewing. She was also an avid reader. As a teenager, Grace had a talent for sewing, she would go into a store to find out the latest fashions, come home, cut the pattern out of newspaper, then cut out and sew the material thus creating the latest fashions with her sewing and continued this throughout her adult life. Survivors include daughters; Pauline Bringaze and her husband Warren of Plainville, Illinois and Maxine Scott and her husband Don of Ft. Myers, Florida; stepsons, Donald Garrett of California, Phillip Garrett and his wife Marilyn of Opelika, Alabama, and Roger Garrett and his wife Marylyn of Atlanta, Missouri and Davis, California; grandchildren, Roy Chrisop and his wife Jenny of Portland, Oregon, Amy Russo and her husband Anthony of Butte, Montana, Donnie Scott and his wife Erin of Three Riding, Virginia; five great-grandchildren; seventeen step-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Grace treasured the love and friendship of Junior and Pauline Cave and all of their family. Grace was preceded in death by her sisters, Maudie in infancy, Emma Krahl Anderson, Ellen Morris; brothers Bill, Pete, John E., Chris, and Tommy Danuser and her step-sons, Robert and Wayne Garrett. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m., Thursday, December 17, 2009 in the Hunter Funeral Home, Mendon, Illinois. A second visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009 in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton. A celebration of Grace's life will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Freedom Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Mendon, Illinois, Freedom Cemetery Association or to Blessing Foundation for Hospice and left at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
