On February 4, 1953 in Affton, Missouri he was united in marriage to Charlotte R. Schmidt and to this union two children were born. Together they shared fifty-two wonderful years of marriage until her passing on December 19, 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents and three siblings, Philip Hamm, Jr., Dorothy Lang and Betty Carter. Survivors include his son, Hal Thomas Hamm, Jr. and wife Colleen Carroll of Joplin, Missouri; his daughter, Ruth Vierling and husband Frank of Onalaska, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Katie Pryor and husband Jon of Versailles, Missouri, Brad Hamm and wife Sara of Montreal, Missouri, Tom Vierling and wife Stephanie of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jeff Vierling of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Greg Vierling and John Brosnan of Seattle, Washington; four great-grandchildren, Mason and Gage Pryor, Harper Hamm and Maddie Vierling; his companion, Linda Roberts of Edwards, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Hal lived his younger years in Jackson, Tennessee until his family moved to St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Affton High School in the class of 1949. Right after graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp where he proudly served his country. At the age of 16, Hal was already an accomplished auto mechanic. He worked for Sunset Ford and was the service manager for Anheuser Ford. He opened his own shop, H & K Auto Repair in Fenton, Missouri. In 1979, Hal and Charlotte moved to the Lake of the Ozarks where he started Hal Hamm Builders and kept it open till he retired in 1995. In 2015, he went on the Freedom Honor Flight representing the United States Marine Corp. It was an experience of a life time for him. Hal accepted Christ and was of the Christian faith. In his spare time, he could be found doing his woodworking magic. He could take a broken piece of furniture and make it look brand new. Hal enjoyed life in every way. He loved going to auctions, his horses, riding his Amish doctor buggy in parades and visiting with everyone. He loved to watch his grandchildren in the creek. They would often come back with crawfish, turtles, tadpoles and other creatures they caught along the way. Hal and Charlotte also conducted a prison ministry in Fordland Prison for many years. For over thirty years, Tom and Hal prayed together every morning. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a caring neighbor and friend.
