Hazel Emry

HAZEL EMRY Hazel Lucille Emry, daughter of Andrew Jackson and Dollie Lyne Long, was born, August 16, 1923 in Old Linn Creek, Missouri. She departed this life, Thursday, November 6, 2008 in Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of eighty-five years, two months and twenty-one days. On March 3, 1945, she was united in marriage to William Frank "Jiggs" Emry and to this union two sons were born. Together they shared forty-five years until his passing on November 5, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jiggs Emry, Jr.; three brothers, Jackson Long, Melvin Long and Otto Long and three sisters, Edith Earp, Edna Anderson and Ethel Caviness. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by those who loved her including a son, John T. "Tom" Emry and wife Norma; a daughter-in-law, Ann Emry; two grandchildren, Coby Emry and wife Samantha and Naia Carroll and husband Kenny; two great-grandchildren, Shelby and J.T. Carroll and one soon-to-be great-grandbaby Emry all of Camdenton, Missouri as well as other relatives and many friends. Hazel was raised in Old Linn Creek and she and her family moved to Camdenton when the lake was formed. She was a life-long resident of Camden County with the exception of time spent away during World War II and early years of her marriage. While her husband to be, Jiggs, served in the Marine Corp in the Pacific, she proudly served her country, during the war, with her sister Edith in Wichita, Kansas in the aircraft factory as a riveter, claiming this was her favorite job ever. In the late 1940's, she and her husband were owners of The Doughnut Shop in Camdenton. She worked in Kansas City, Jefferson City and later in Camdenton for the Division of Family Services for the State of Missouri and retired after forty years of service. She retired so she could spend more time at home caring for her disabled husband and her 100 year old mother. Hazel was an excellent cook, liked working crossword puzzles and reading. She enjoyed caring for her yard, mowing it herself until she was eighty years old, burning leaves and cleaning up. She enjoyed any kind of auction or garage sale and loved to collect anything. Most of all, she loved to spend time with and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a strong devotion and love for her family and that love will live on forever through them Hazel was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2008 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Burn officiating. Burial will follow in Freedom Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, in the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
