HELEN SHIMER Helen Frances Shimer, daughter of J. Frank and Emily Staman Hook, was born, October 25, 1920 in Manaska County, Iowa. She departed this life, Monday, September 29, 2008 in Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach at the age of eighty-seven years, eleven months and four days. On April 11, 1943 in the NAS Chapel, Pensacola, Florida, she was united in marriage to Henry Harrison Shimer and to this union two sons were born. Together they shared sixty-two years until his passing on August 6, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Staman Hook and two sisters, Lucille Kushmann and Alice Guyer. Survivors include her sons, Charlie Shimer of Sunrise Beach, Missouri and Larry Shimer and wife Kathi of Wellington, Kansas; two grandchildren, Andrew Shimer and wife Michelle and Elizabeth Letourneau and husband Aaron all of Wellington, Kansas; a great-granddaughter, Isabelle Jane Letourneau; a sister, Eleanor Else of Lawton, Michigan and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Helen was raised is Iowa and graduated from high school in Osakloosa. She then enrolled in William Penn College, where she met her future husband. After their marriage and after World War II, they moved to Lawrence Kansas and later to Kansas City. After a few years in Baltimore, Maryland, the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri. They had purchased property at Lake of the Ozarks in 1949 and retired there in 1980. Helen enjoyed doing art projects in her spare time and created many beautiful pieces throughout her life. She also enjoyed gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends. Helen requested that her body be gifted to the University of Missouri School of Medicine and no service be conducted. Memorial donations may be made to Laurie Care Center and left at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
