CHARLES AUGUST VAN CLEAVE, III Charles August Van Cleave, III, son of Charles August Van Cleave, II and Irene Estelle Marie Burgmeyer Van Cleave, was born, March 4, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri. He departed this life, Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in his home, Linn Creek, Missouri at the age of ninety-one years, three months and twenty days. On June 17, 1943 in Imperial, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Rose Briesacher and to this union three children were born. They celebrated their seventy-first wedding anniversary last week. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Milton E. Van Cleave. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy R. Van Cleave of Linn Creek, Missouri; two sons, Charles A. Van Cleave, IV and wife Kay and Michael F. Van Cleave and wife Maryann all of Macks Creek, Missouri; a daughter, Karen L. Amsler and husband Steve of Festus, Missouri; a brother, Eugene P. Van Cleave and wife Pat of High Ridge, Missouri; a sister, Irene "Sis" Savell of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Charles A. Van Cleave, V and wife Dana and Jeffrey M. Van Cleave and wife Allie all of Columbia, Missouri, Ronald P. Van Cleave of St. Louis, Missouri, Bryan M. Amsler of Festus, Missouri and Julia K. Skyles of Valley Park, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Charles A. Van Cleave, VI and Alexa Van Cleave and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Charles was raised in Brentwood, Missouri and later lived in Imperial, where he met and married his wife. He served his country proudly in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. After being honorably discharged, they lived in St. Louis, Times Beach, Missouri and later Melville, Missouri. They moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1972 where they owned and operated Mallard Cove Marina. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a very hard worker and enjoyed computers. Later in life, he and his wife traveled throughout the country. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Allee Memorial Gardens, Camdenton. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m., Friday in the funeral home. Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
