Imogene McDaniel

Imogene McDaniel, daughter of the late Joseph Earl & Isa (Sheffield) Horton, was born on March 4, 1927 and departed this life on March 26, 2025. At the time of her passing, Jean was ninety-eight years and twenty-two days of age.

Jean was preceded in passing by her parents; her husband, Robert Kenneth “Kenny” McDaniel; one brother, Leroy Horton; and four sisters, Eva, Dorothy, Mary Ellen and her twin sister, Jackie.

She is survived by her two children, Marilyn & Kyle Meyers of Blue Springs, Missouri and Joe McDaniel of Smithville, Missouri & Amanda McDaniel; grandchildren, Hannah, Janessa, LeaAnna, Josh, Jacob, Alaina and Jacob Jobson; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Kylie, Halsey and Jamison; and one sister, Gladys Jones. In her passing, Jean also leaves behind many friends and other family who will all truly miss her.

Jean was born, raised and attended school in Ash Flat, Arkansas. Following high school, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri to attend nursing school at St. Mary’s Nursing School. While living in Kansas City, she met Kenny McDaniel and on February 3, 1951 they were united in marriage; sharing fifty-nine years of marriage.

Throughout her working years, she worked at General Hospital, in the emergency room as a registered nurse and later Northeast Osteopathic Hospital.

In 1971, they bought a Lake home in Pleasant Valley One, Climax Springs, Missouri. In 1989, following their retirement, they would make their lake home their permanent residence, truly falling in love with the community and neighbors. To further serve their community in Pleasant Valley, both Jean and Ken were a part of the volunteer fire department. Jean was also very proud of her time spent as a member of the Red Hat Society and the Fireflies, while serving as a volunteer for the fire department for over three decades.

Together, they would develop a passion for traveling, spending winters in either Apache Junction, Arizona or Fort Myers, Florida with their friends.

In her spare time, Jean loved to fish, gamble, play cards and cook. Jean and Ken also loved to entertain her friends, having get-togethers at the home or random scenic places in the woods. She loved to watch football, especially cheering on her beloved Kansas City Chiefs.
