Jack Smith

JACK C SMITH Jack Chester Smith, son of John Wesley and Dovie Lou Martin Smith, was born, July 31, 1930 in Alabama. He departed this life, Friday, October 16, 2009, in Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of seventy-nine years, two months and sixteen days. On February 18, 1955 in Meridian, Mississippi, he was united in marriage to Caroline Christine McAfee and to this union three daughters were born. Together they shared forty-eight years until her passing on September 12, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Russell and two brothers, Joe Smith and James Smith. Survivors include his daughters, Jackie Javor of Osage Beach, Missouri, Shirley Pierce of Steger, Illinois and Sandy Richard of Kaiser, Missouri; six grandchildren Robert Reitz, Jason Bell, Jillian Pierce, Ashley Richards, Rachel Richard and Adam Richard; two great-grandchildren, Austin Bishop Bell and Caroline Bell; a sister, Betty Thomas of Bay View, Alabama; a brother, John Smith of Bay View, Alabama and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Jack was raised in Alabama and attended school there. He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he moved to the Chicago area. It was there that he met and married his wife. He lived most of his life in the Chicago area working as a Stationary Engineer of US Steel. They retired to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1989. He had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Sauk Village, Illinois. He was a hard worker and enjoyed the simple things in life. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Graveside funeral services and burial will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22, 2009 in Concordia Cemetery, Hammond Indiana under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Thursday in the Concordia Cemetery Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
