James Malcolm Osborn

James “Malcolm” Osborn, son of Charles Cecil and Golda Mae Jackson Osborn, was born, October 31,1933 in Camdenton, Missouri. He departed this life, Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of eighty-six years, eleven months and twenty-nine days. On July 12, 1952, in Camdenton Community Christian Church, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary “Joan” Anderson and to this union three children were born. Together they shared sixty-eight wonderful years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Alvin Osborn and two sisters, Mildred Blair and Lou Frey. Survivors include his wife, Joan of the home; his three children, Joy Elaine Davis and husband Michael L. of Lebanon, Missouri, Keith Dale Osborn and wife Penny of Caney, Kansas and Karen Ann Pennell and husband Michael John of Parkville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Trisha Grace Nail and husband Benjamin Louis of Lebanon, Missouri, Justin Michael Davis and wife Melissa Ann of Olathe, Kansas, Dala Marie Osborn of Coffeyville, Kansas, Thomas Keith Osborn and wife Kylie of Coffeyville, Kansas, Noah Michael Pennell and Elijah McAllen Pennell of Parkville, Missouri; six great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Taylor Nail, Haylee Osborn, Dylan, Cora Ann and Kelsey Ann Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Malcolm was raised in and attended school in Camdenton, Missouri and graduated in the Class of 1952. He worked at General Motors in Kansas City and shortly thereafter, he moved back to Camdenton to begin his career in farming and running a cow-calf operation. In between his required stints as a do-it-yourself machinist, veterinarian, and botanist, he served his community in many ways. He was elected to the Laclede Electric Board of Directors on September 10, 1964 and served as President from 1999-2011. He retired from the Board on August 26, 2011 after proudly serving forty-eight years. He had received the Certified Board Leadership Certification and completed the Credentialed Cooperative Director Program. He was on the Board of Directors and served as President of the Camden County Farm Bureau and was a Charter Member and Board member of the Soil and Water Conservation District when it started as a farm organization. He was awarded Farmer of the Year in 1972. Malcolm and Joan were honored by having Circle A Ranch recognized as a Missouri Century Farm. He had also worked and managed the J-Bar-H Rodeo for eighteen years. Malcolm made a profession of faith and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Camdenton. He served the church as a Sunday School teacher, a committee member and a deacon for fifty years. In his spare time, he lived a very full life. He coached baseball, girls’ softball and basketball. He enjoyed bowling and was proud of having bowled twelve strikes in a row. After graduation from high school, Malcolm was a life-long learner, progressive businessman and farmer, and an avid reader. He had many talents such as water skiing, fishing, hunting, shooting, beekeeping and woodworking. He enjoyed working with his bird dogs and listening to the Gaither Vocal Band. He was a loving husband, dad, papa, uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. His final words to his family and all of us, for that matter; “I love you all. Take care of each other. I’ll see you there.” A private family service is being held. Friends may drop in at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home and pay their final condolences from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2020.
