James Portwood

James Edward Portwood (born September 1, 1941) departed this blessed Earth May 18, 2022 at 2:39pm to greet the many souls who have gone before. He was much loved by all he called “family”. He grew up an adopted son of 2 giving parents, Maynard E. Portwood and Anna Mae (Gross) Portwood who enriched his life with foster brothers and sisters. He was lovingly known by his biological family and they were a big part of his life. His spirit of giving back to others continued when he became a police officer with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. His relationships with his brothers in law enforcement gave him stories that he shared with anyone who spent quality time with him. James spent many years behind the wheel of a patrol car protecting his family of man. Upon retirement, he decided to remain behind a steering wheel driving a school bus (with a memorable grin) and thus sharing his good patience and love with children. James leaves behind two children from his first marriage, Lisa Anne Sienkiewicz (Steven) and Phillip Edward Portwood (Heather) and four stepchildren, Richard Hoffecker Robert Hoffecker, William Hoffecker and Tiffany Patrick. He was blessed with several grandchildren. It is honored that he is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Stella and many good friends and family whom he embraced wonderfully as the ones he loved. His last couple of years were spent in Southwest Florida gazing at the Gulf of Mexico watching pelicans and sunsets. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Following the service, a visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home.
