On April 12, 1941, she was united in marriage to Malcolm Meads and to this union, one daughter was born. Together they shared forty-two years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son-n-law, Ralph Laughlin; five brothers, Kenneth, Jerald, Bob, Bill, Jesse and two sisters, Ruby and Betty. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Laughlin of Waynesville, Missouri; a grandson, Randy Laughlin and wife Christine of Ashland, Missouri; her great-grandchildren, Katy and Frankie Laughlin and Aden O’Bannon; her sister Dottie Smith of Rogersville, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Jewell was raised in Colorado before moving back to Missouri where she graduated from Tunas High School in the Class of 1941. She met the love of her life, Malcolm while she was in school and they were married while they were still in High School. They moved back to Camden County to the Meads family farm where she lived for seventy-five years. She worked at Camdenton High School as a cook and then was Office Manager for Blair Distributing for many years. Jewell was saved at her home and was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Her faith was very important to her. She loved her church and all of her church family. Barbara tried to bring her back to her church as often as she could. In her spare time, she could be found quilting and sewing. She made many quilts and took great pride in her work. For Christmas, Barbara and Jewell picked out fabric and a design and Barbara cut out the pieces. She was working on piecing the quilt before she was no longer able to. She was an excellent cook. Her pie crust was like no other. She had passed the secret for the pie crust onto Barbara. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a caring neighbor and friend. She has blessed many of us with many special memories. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and know that heaven gained a beautiful angel.
