Jimmie Dean Hanks, son of Argus Cox and Leola Hanks, was born January 2, 1935 in Zebra(Osage Beach), Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Lenoir Woods Skilled Nursing Center, Columbia, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, nine months, and five days. On October 13, 1984, Jimmie was united in marriage to Barbara Driskill-Toalson and together they have shared the last thirty-three years. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oris and Wendell Hanks; as well as two brothers who passed away in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Columbia, Missouri; a daughter, Vickie Samuel and husband Johnny, of Ashland, Missouri; two sons, David Hanks and wife Julie, of Columbia, Missouri, and Michael Hanks and wife Christine, of Boonville, Missouri; his grandchildren, Keith Samuel and wife Chastity, Kevin Samuel and wife Melissa, Wesley Hanks, Patrick Hanks and wife Emily, all of Columbia, Missouri, and Justin Hanks of Boonville, Missouri; six great-grandchildren; his sisters, Wanda Bell, of Iberia, Missouri, Janice Brown of Fort Scott, Kansas, Barbara Sablan, of Whittier, California, and Roxanne Wright and husband Rodney, of Anderson, South Carolina; a step-son, Terry Toalson, of Columbia, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Jimmie had accepted Christ as his Savior and was a member of the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Camdenton. Jimmie was born in Zebra, Missouri, and was a graduate of Camdenton High School. Following graduation, Jimmie entered the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict as a tank operator. Jimmie served twenty years on the Columbia, Missouri Police Department, where he received numerous commendations throughout the years. Most notably were his brave and heroic acts during a motel fire as well as the First Bank West robbery, both in which Jimmie went above and beyond the call of duty. Following his retirement, Jimmie returned to the Camdenton area and was a member of the VFW Post 5923. He later drove over the road for many years, worked as a Park Ranger at Ha Ha Tonka State Park, and operated Hanks Garage Doors in Camdenton. In 2005, Jimmie went with Missouri Task Force One to New Orleans to assist with Hurricane Katrina Rescue efforts. In his spare time, Jimmie enjoyed working in his yard, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. Jimmie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:30, P.M. Thursday, October 12, 2017 in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. Burial with full military honors will follow in Laughlin Cemetery. Visitation with police honors, rendered by the Columbia Police Department Honor Guard will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or to Laughlin Cemetery and left at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
