JOHN T. DAVENPORT John Thomas Davenport, son of Dewey and Nora Davis Davenport, was born, September 16, 1925 in Edwardsville, Illinois. He departed this life, Sunday, March 28, 2010, in Osage Beach Health Care, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of eighty-four years, six months and twelve days. On August 27, 1949 in Edwardsville, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Virginia Marie Grinstead and to this union three children were born. Together they shared the past sixty years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Davenport of the home); his children, Terri Davenport of Camdenton, Missouri, Dennis Davenport of Lakewood, Colorado and Jeffery Davenport of Elgin, Texas; two grandchildren, Eric Nyman of Gwinn, Michigan and Emily Nyman of Ishpeming, Michigan; a sister, Frances Hartung of Granite City, Illinois; a brother, David Davenport of Glen Carbon, Illinois and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. John was raised in Edwardsville, Illinois and attended school there. During World War II, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy in the Seabee's. After being honorably discharged from the military, he returned to Edwardsville. It was there he began his career with Shell Oil. He worked as a research technician in Wood River, Illinois and later in Houston, Texas. He and Virginia retired to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1992. John made a profession of faith in Christ. He was an avid aircraft enthusiast and was a member of the Experimental Aviation Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncles and a caring neighbor and friend. He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 1, 2010 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Allee Memorial Gardens, Camdenton. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Regional Hospice and left at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
