John Foster Hayhurst

John F. Hayhurst, son of Merle and Isabelle (Brannan) Hayhurst, was born on June 6, 1939 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He departed this life on March 10, 2024 in Camdenton, Missouri. At the age of his passing, John was eighty-four years, nine months and four days.

He was united in marriage to Ann Mary McDowell in 1963, and to this union two children were born. Together they shared sixty-one years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, James Brannon Hayhurst; sister, Alison Vaughn; and nephew, James Elliott Hayhurst.

John is survived by his wife, Ann; son, John Andrew (Mary Jane); daughter, Kirsten Welch; and grandchildren Colin James and Piper Ellen Welch, Sarah Ann Hayhurst, and Drew Isabelle Hayhurst. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and many friends who will all truly miss him.

John was raised in the Colorado Springs, Colorado and Sheridan, Wyoming areas. He attended University of Denver and later U.M.K.C, earning his Doctorate of Dental Science and later specializing in Orthodontics.

John lived an amazing life full of adventure culminating in retiring from Lake Dental Clinic, but he also was a small plane pilot, flying all over the Country, and throughout the mountains of Alaska. He helmed a small gold mining operation in Alaska, and was a blue water sailor in which he won the Daytona-Bermuda Transatlantic sailing race aboard the sailing yacht, "Peregrine." John raised his family in Boulder County, Colorado, where he played "gentleman farmer" on the family's 30-acre farm in Boulder Valley.

As if those weren’t exciting enough, John enjoyed being creative and was a talented artist and woodworker in his spare time. He always had a smile and a joke, and loved to laugh.

He was a loving and a caring Husband, Father, Grandfather, neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. John will be sorely missed, but will be remembered for his laughter and “can-do” attitude.
