Larry Eugene Rice, 80, of Sunrise Beach, MO, formerly of Olathe, KS passed peacefully at his home in the early hours of March 14th, 2024.
Born June 21st, 1943 in Chillicothe, MO, he was the son of William Thomas Rice and Essel Marie (Newton) Rice.
Larry attended Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, KS. Following his high school graduation in 1961, Larry joined and proudly served in the United States Air Force. Specializing in coding, he spent time in San Antonio, TX, and San Francisco, CA, as well as several traveling journeys abroad.
Larry married twice, first to Judith Lynn Brock and then to Karen Lou Leathers, until her passing in 2010.
Larry was a successful entrepreneur specializing in maintenance, repair, inspection and contracting services for homes and businesses.
Larry is survived by his three sisters, Mary Pearl, Clara Mae, and Billee Jo and their respective families. Larry had three birth children, Kimberly Jill (Rice) Ferguson, William Russell Rice, and Timothy Wayne Huck and a step daughter, Pel Abbott. Grandchildren include Alyssa Paige Rice, Justin Cody Humphrey, Cailey Rose Humphrey, Brittney Johanna Huck, Jessica Mae Huck and Jonathan Havice, Great grandchildren include Luke and Landon Austin.
Larry had a gentle nature and unique and mischievous sense of humor and made friends very easily. He nurtured and maintained many deep friendships throughout his life and is loved and missed by many.
Larry lived life on his own terms and lived a very full life. He had a lifelong love of fishing which he enjoyed all the way up to a week before passing. Larry also loved everything Harley Davidson and riding a motorcycle was a great passion throughout his life. Larry was also a very active and prominent member of the Kansas City Astronomers Club. Larry’s deep appreciation of a good margarita can also not go unsaid.
Larry was very active in his church and had a deep love for God and his Savior, Jesus Christ. May Larry Eugene Rice rest peacefully in Heaven.
Larry Eugene Rice’s final resting, to be held at a later date, will be beside his wife, Karen Lou (Leathers) Rice, in Moberly, Missouri.
Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home.
