Lowell Dodson

Lowell James Dodson, son of the late Thomas & Ruby (Holderby) Dodson, was born on November 8, 1926 and departed this life on March 13, 2024. At the time of his passing, Lowell was ninety-seven years, four months and eleven days of age.

Lowell was preceded in passing by his parents; his wife, Beverly (Forpahl) Dodson; his son, Michael James Dodson; four siblings, Naomi Taber, Paul Dodson, Ross Dodson, and one infant sibling.

Lowell is survived by his son Stephen & wife Sharon, his daughter Rebecca & husband Brian Cowan; five stepchildren, Pamela Prusha, Linn Lanston, Donna Burge, Janet Langley, Michael Morandy; four grandchildren; eleven step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nineteen step-grandchildren. In his passing, Lowell leaves behind many friends and other family members who will truly miss him.

Lowell was born and raised in Kirksville, Missouri, where he graduated from high school with the class of 1944. Following his high school graduation, Lowell enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during WW-II. After returning home from the war, Lowell united in marriage with Mary Draper and to this union two children were born. Following their divorce, Lowell united in marriage with Dana Harless and to this union, one child was born. Lowell united in marriage with Beverly Forpahl on June 20, 1984, until her passing in 2009.

Throughout his career, Lowell worked as a Manager for Sears in several locations. He then began his career with the Kansas State Penitentiary in Lansing, Kansas and would later transfer to the Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary, serving as a guard, member of the riot squad, and later became a counselor with the chemical and drug abuse unit. He finished his career as a validation therapist, being noticed in a publication for his work with Dementia and Alzheimer’s patients.

In his spare time, Lowell loved to spend time outdoors, hunting and fishing with his children.

A service will be announced by the family at a later date.
