Marie Spencer

MARIE B. SPENCER Marie B. Spencer, daughter of Arthur and Bessie Mae Mattney Yates, was born, March 21, 1916 in Orrick, Missouri. She departed this life, Sunday, September 6, 2009, in Laurie Care Center, Laurie, Missouri at the age of ninety-three years, five months and sixteen days. On July 26, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Jay Warren Spencer, Jr. Together they shared sixty-six years, until his passing on October 5, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles Yates, Bill Yates and Emmet Yates; a sister, Alice Mae Miller; a granddaughter, Kathleen Kitchen; four sisters-in-law, Loretta Yates, Fern Yates, Alma Yates and Catherine Yates and a brother-in-law, Glen Miller. Survivors include a daughter, Rose Sorensen and husband Robert of Camdenton, Missouri; a son, David Spencer and wife Carol Ann of Chicago, Illinois; three grandsons, Jacob Spencer of Chicago, Illinois, Jay Douglas Spencer (known as Father Jerome) of St. Anthony Greek Monastery, Florence, Arizona and Michael McAllister of Tempe, Arizona; a great-granddaughter, Anna Mitchell of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; two brothers, Art Yates, Jr. of Osage Beach, Missouri and Norman Yates and wife Audrey of Camdenton, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Marie was raised in Orrick, Missouri and graduated from school there. During her life, she lived in Kansas City, Denver, Chicago and in California for a time. She worked at Carson-Pirie-Scott in Chicago for many years and was the top salesperson in Furniture and Interior Decorating for three years in a row. She had been a hairdresser earlier in life. She retired to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1983. Marie made a profession of faith in Christ and followed the teachings of the Methodist Church. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She was talented at needlework and interior decorating. Most of all, she enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. A memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton. Burial will be in Allee Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
