Marilyn Kay Varner, daughter of Gilbert and Amelia Neukirch Goracke, was born on August 23, 1949 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. She departed from this world on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri, at the age of sixty-seven. Marilyn was born and raised in Nebraska. On June 6, 1970, Marilyn was united in marriage to James Varner and they were blessed with two daughters. Marilyn received her degree in nursing from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lincoln. She began and finished her career as a surgical nurse at the St. Elizabeth Regional Health Center in Lincoln after over thirty years of service until her retirement. Marilyn and James moved to Lake of the Ozarks in 2008 to make their retirement home. Marilyn was baptized into the Catholic Church and was a member of Blessed Sacrament in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was a woman of strong faith and attended St. Anthony Catholic Church while living at the lake. Marilyn was loved by many and will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, her creativity, and her sense of humor. She was always supportive of those around her and she had a way of brightening everyone’s day and always made every birthday and celebration special. In her spare time, Marilyn enjoyed painting, working in her flower garden, and traveling whenever possible. She never met a stranger and as her family would say, she could carry on a conversation with a stick. She was truly a special woman. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Linda Wheeler. She is survived by her husband, James; her daughters, Abbey Varner, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, and Jessica Varner, of Westbrook, Connecticut; a sister, Pat Little and husband Dave, of Tecumseh, Nebraska; and a brother, Dwayne Goracke, and wife Lana, of Lewisville, Texas; a number of nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
