MILDRED RAKES Mildred Pauline Rakes, daughter of Lewis Elmer and Carrie Ellen Palmer Hiskey, was born, September 6, 1918 in Lorimor, Iowa. She departed this life, Tuesday, April 10, 2012, in her home, Camdenton, Missouri at the age of ninety-three years, seven months and four days. On October 28, 1939 in Trenton, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Lester Dwight "Les" Rakes and to this union three children were born. Together they shared sixty-two years of marriage until his passing on November 30, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joyce Vickroy and her husband Curly; a grandson, Brian Scott Lawler; a brother, Clifford Hiskey and four sisters, Frances Benson, Lula Johnson, Leota Huston and Lena Peterson. Survivors include two children; Carole Lawler and husband Bud of Milo, Iowa and Dwight Rakes and wife Connie of Camdenton, Missouri; six grandchildren, Bret Lawler and wife Mary Ann, Mike Lawler, Todd Vickroy and wife Ronna, Mark Vickroy and wife Diane, Leann Selander and husband Rob and Allen Rakes and wife Shonna; a step-grandson, Chad Bortoff; fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Maynard Hiskey of West Des Moines, Iowa and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Mildred was raised in Lorimor, Iowa and was a graduate of Lorimor High School in the class of 1935. She met and married her husband in Cumming, Iowa and they made their home there, they later moved to a farm in Indianola, Iowa. They retired to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1963. She devoted her life to being a mother and grandmother, a helpmate to her husband and a homemaker. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting. She made many beautiful afghans and doilies throughout the years. She also liked to draw. Most of all, being around her family brought her joy. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and a caring neighbor and friend. She touched many lives and will be missed by those who knew and loved her. A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Allee Memorial Gardens, Camdenton. Memorial donations may be made to the family and left at the funeral home. Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
