Ralph Rider

RALPH M. RIDER Ralph M. Rider, son of Henry Tilden and Clara Charlotte Stahlhut Rider, was born November 16, 1922, in La Monte, Missouri. He departed this life, Thursday, December 6, 2007, in Boone Hospital Center, Columbia, Missouri at the age of eighty-five years and twenty days. On October 28, 1950, in Sedalia, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Lucia Lee Brosing and to this union two children were born. Together they shared the past fifty-seven years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cecil H. Rider. Survivors include his loving wife, Lucia B. Rider of the home; a daughter Nancy L. Rider of McLean, Virginia; a son, Ralph M. Rider, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren, Charles H. Rider, Elizabeth A. Rider and Daniel J. Rider all of Kansas City, Missouri and Joanna Lee Rider of McLean, Virginia; a brother, Donald V. Rider of Wayland, Massachusetts and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ralph was raised on a farm south of Sedalia, Missouri and was a graduate of Smith Cotton High School in the class of 1940. After graduation he continued to work on the farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in November of 1942. He served in the infantry during the Battle of the Bulge and served in Europe during World War II. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and a Croix de Guerre before being honorably discharged. After the war he worked at a hatchery in Sedalia and in 1949 joined the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He served in Troop A until 1956 then transferred to Troop F and served in Camden County until he retired as a Sergeant in 1979. He later became a bass tournament fisherman and ran a fishing guide service through Tan-Tar-A along with a fishing shop called "Fish In Stuff". In 1990 he was elected as Camden County Sheriff and served the county until 1993. He later served a term as Police Chief in Lake Ozark. He made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Camdenton United Methodist Church. He served as Chairman of the Building Committee when the church was built in 1964. He was active in Boy Scouts, served on the Camdenton Planning and Zoning Board and was instrumental in building the city park and library. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and reading. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Ralph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. He created a legacy for himself and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. ***DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE SERVICE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO THE FOLLOWING*** Funeral services with Military and Highway Patrol Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2007 in the Camdenton United Methodist Church with Reverend Marc Magana officiating. Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m., Tuesday in the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Camdenton United Methodist Church and left at the funeral home or the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
