REVEREND GEORGE MARG George Carl Marg, son of Carl Frederick and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Bittner Marg, was born Wednesday, October 3, 1923 in Winona, Minnesota. He departed this life, Saturday, May 12, 2007 in Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of eighty-three years, seven months and nine days. In 1946 in Joplin, Missouri, he met Evelyn Juanita Schuette while he was working as a field worker in the Freistat Circuit. They were married on October 26, 1947 in Joplin, Missouri and to this union four children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bonnie Wadewitz. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Evelyn; four children, William Carl Marg of Camdenton, Missouri ; Eunice Marie Brakebill and husband Thomas David of Niota, Tennessee; Richard Keith Marg and wife Linda Kay of Camdenton, Missouri and Pamela Kay Marg-Warner and husband Michael J. Warner, Jr. of Camdenton, Missouri; a brother, Donald Marg and wife Ruth of Winona, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was raised in Winona, Minnesota and spent many years in Minneiska, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm, and milked cows and drove a team of horses at the age of six. He graduated from Concordia Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota in the class of 1942 and was able to read Latin, Greek and German by the time he graduated. He attended college there and later attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated in 1949. He entered the ministry and pastored churches in North Dakota, South Dakota and Alabama. He then returned to St. Louis where he received his Master's Degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Washington University. He spent two years teaching Swedish Lutherans at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. He taught Sociology and Anthropology at Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey. He taught Sociology and Religion at St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas. He spent three years as pastor in a church in Leigh, Nebraska. He then moved to Athens, Tennessee and started a church and also taught at Tennessee Wesleyan College. He taught Sociology and Psychology at Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi and started Good Shepherd Lutheran Church there. He moved and was pastor at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Shelbyville, Missouri, Trinity Lutheran Church in Clarks Fork, Missouri and then in Stanton, Michigan. He moved back to Missouri in 1979 and worked at Bridal Cave, where he performed several wedding ceremonies, Color Craft, B&M and filled in for vacant congregations as needed. He retired on July 13, 2003 at the age of seventy-nine. He was a member of the Republican Club in Camdenton and the Sedalia Lutheran Circuit. He as a charter member of Shaped By The Cross Lutheran Church in Laurie. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and used to sell at the Farmer's Market, which he managed for five years. He also enjoyed woodworking and reading. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and was a caring pastor, neighbor and friend. We celebrate all of his wonderful accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2007 in Peace Lutheran Church, Greenview, Missouri with Pastor Robin Fish and Pastor E.S. Pepper officiating. Burial will follow in Peace Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Monday in the funeral home, with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family and left at the funeral home or the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
