It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Robert Lee Alumbaugh of Camdenton, Missouri passing (from a long battle with cancer) on January 13, 2025, at the age of 78. His wife, Mary Frances Alumbaugh, and immediate family members were by his side. “Bob” known to his friends and family, was born on July 13, 1946 in Independence, Missouri to Rosa Mae Weiss-Alumbaugh and Don Liston Alumbaugh. His siblings include Charles (Connie), Donald (Sue), Beverly and Larry. Bob married the love of his life, and best friend, Mary Frances McDonald, on February 4, 1967. They had two children, Scott Michael (Carolyn) and Tracy Christine. They have seven grandchildren - Justin McMullen (Samantha), Ashley McMullen (Johnny), Blake McMullen, Corey Alumbaugh, Ryan Alumbaugh, Regan Hayes, and Jaycob Hayes. Five great-grandchildren - Brooklynn Fuhrman, Braxton Fuhrman, Brecken McMullen, Asher Alumbaugh, and Dewey-Lee Landis. Bob’s family also included many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, church family, neighbors and an enormous number of friends. Bob never met a stranger.
Bob joined the United States Navy on April 16, 1966. He was stationed at USNAB, Coronado, San Diego, California as a diesel engine mechanic. Then, he was sent to Vietnam and served on a Personal Landing Craft, conducting reconnaissance missions, transferring prisoners of war and transporting troops to combat zones.
He earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal while serving our country in Vietnam and the National Defense Service Medal. Bob was honorably discharged from active-duty April 11, 1970. Bob continued his military career in the Navy Reserves for the next several years.
When Bob returned to the United States, he started his career at Armco Steel/GST in Kansas City, Missouri. He retired after 32 years, with several awards and promotions. In 1973, Bob and Mary settled in Blue Springs, Missouri where they enjoyed raising their two children. Bob was passionate about animals, bowling, cooking, the Kansas City Chiefs and providing for his family. Bob and Mary retired in 2000, at the Lake of the Ozarks. We will come together on January 27, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Camdenton, Missouri. Arrangements have been entrusted to Allee Holman-Howe Funeral Home,15 Clint Avenue, Camdenton, Missouri 65020.
