ROMAN F. ZABICKI Roman Florian Zabicki, son of Stephan and Magdalena Dzierlinga Zabicki, was born, December 10, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois. He departed this life, Thursday, June 12, 2008 in his home, Camdenton, Missouri at the age of eighty-eight years, six months and two days. On October 4, 1981 in Lemont, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Irma Ackermann. Together they shared the past twenty-six years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita; his parents; an infant daughter, Jacqueline; a sister, Sophie; a step-son, Erich and a son-in-law, Lawrence. Survivors include his wife, Irma of the home; nine children, Joan of Everett, Washington, Roman of Chicago, Illinois, Jill of Santa Clarita, California, Dan of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Janet of Lansing, Illinois, Bill of Glendale Heights, Illinois, Jane and Jo Ellen both of Bolingbrook, Illinois and Jean Theresa of Chicago, Illinois; two step-children, Christine Ackermann of St. Louis, Missouri and Karl Ackermann of Plainfield, Illinois; twenty-six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother Steven of Rockland Hills, Maryland and a host of other relatives and many friends. Roman was raised in Chicago and he attended Five Holy Martyrs School and Lindbloom High School. After graduating he proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged as a Technician Fourth Grade, he returned to the Chicago area. He worked for the Chicago Today newspaper for thirty-six years as an editorial artist. He also was a freelance photographer for the Southwest News-Herald. He worked for many years as a photographer and graphic artist for the Chicago Police Department. He and Irma retired to the Lake of the Ozarks nineteen years ago. While in Camdenton he did freelance photography and photo retouch and restoration. Roman was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Chicago. He was baptized into the Holy Catholic Church and was a member of St. Nicholas of Tolentine in Chicago, St. Alphonsus in Lemont, Illinois, St. Alexander in Palos Heights, Illinois and St. Anthony in Camdenton, Missouri. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, photography, graphic arts design, horseshoes and bowling. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Roman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2008 with a service to begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home Chapel. A second visitation will be held Monday, June 16, 2008 in Wolniak Funeral Home, Chicago. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2008 in St. Nicholas of Tolentine. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Regional Hospice and left at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
