Ruby Louise Sweatt, daughter of Dan Elbert and Bertha Harriet (Looney) Shumate, was born February 20, 1929 in Camdenton, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, September 4, 2024 in her home at the age of ninety-five years, six months and fifteen days.
On April 17, 1948, Ruby was united in marriage to Wayne Sweatt and to this union four children were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Ruby is survived by her children: John Sweatt and wife Linda, of Montreal, Missouri, Kaye Carroll of Lebanon, Missouri, Mary Offutt and husband Paul of Lebanon, and Richard Sweatt and wife Sharon of Montreal, Missouri; her sister, Jeanne Webb Niemann of Camdenton, Missouri; her grandchildren, Randy Sweatt and wife Jamee, Melissa Salsman and husband Brent, Daniel Carroll and wife Amanda, Chuck Carroll, Jeremy Carroll and wife Danette, Susie Carroll, Michael Offutt and wife Angie, Michelle Hubbs and husband Samuel, Rick Sweatt and wife Jessica and Jonathan Sweatt and wife Sarah; nineteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a very special friend, Becky Hill of Camdenton, Missouri; and an honorary grandson Keven Karr; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Ruby grew up in Camden County and was a graduate of Camdenton High School in the Class of 1948. She spent many years as a dedicated homemaker to her family while her children were young. Ruby later worked for the Camdenton R-3 School District as the kitchen supervisor for many years until her retirement.
She was saved at an early age and was a founding member of Decaturville Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a dedicated church member until her passing.
In her spare time, Ruby loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed traveling with Wayne in their RV for many years. Her family was very important to her and she cherished every minute spent with them.
Ruby was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2:00pm Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Ruby’s Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Richland, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri.
