Twyla "June" Rice

Twyla “June” (Davis) Rice, born April 8th, 1929. Walked through the pearly gates of heaven, May 11th 2024. Twyla was the daughter of Frank Kenneth Davis and Pearl Estes (Starnes) Davis.

Twyla was born in Humbolt, Nebraska and moved to Springfield MO in 1937, where she began attending The First Church of God at the age of seven. She was a faithful member throughout her life. “June” was active in the WCG (Women of The Church of God), here she served as State Treasurer for several years. Twyla attended Camp Meeting in Mountain Grove almost every year.

Twyla met the love of her life, Edward (Bud) Rice, at Fairbanks Elementary in Springfield. They worked together at Cotters Drug Store, where Bud proposed. They were childhood friends that fell in love and married in 1947. Bud passed away suddenly in 1974. They are now reunited in heaven after 50 years.

June dedicated her life to the Lord and her family. She was very proud of her children and their families. June was full of life and fun. She enjoyed drinking coffee, playing dominos, and making pies. She was famous for her pounds of homemade party mix, chocolate covered peanut butter ritz cookies, and no one made homemade cheeseburgers like June. She never let anyone go hungry. Most of all, she cherished any time she spent with her family. June had 5 siblings and there is no mistake that they had a special bond that began at a young age and continued throughout their lives.

June is survived by her children; Ricky Rice, Max and Therese Rice, Doug and Linda (Rice) Bobe, and Carese Rice. Her siblings, Jeri Fugit and Gloria “Lou” Mentzer. Her grandchildren, Melanie Rice Kimbrough, Eva Beckemeyer, Hannah Norris, Kaitlyn Rice, and Alex Bobe. Great Grand Children, Paige Cardell, Alyssa Charles, Julia Grey, Ward Norris, Jillian Beckmeyer, Addison June Rice, Max Norris, and Vada Rice. Along with 4 great-great grandchildren; Maelyn Hankins, Dekota Charles, Beck Charles, and Riley Charles.

Proceeded in death by her parents Frank Kenneth Davis, Pearl Estes (Starnes) Davis, the love of her life, Edward Weir Rice, her siblings, Wanda Applegate, Bob Davis, and Franky Davis.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 15th from 2pm to 4pm at Restoration Church, located at 910 W Battlefield, Springfield MO 65807. In leu of flowers, donations can be made to Restoration Church (aka First Church of God) in memory of Twyla June Rice.
