Walter Wydler

WALTER WYDLER Walter Wydler, born April 23, 1928 in St Louis, MO and died April 19, 2008, Osage Beach, Missouri. Walter was the second son of Estelle and Alfred Wydler and younger brother of Alfred Asa Wydler. Walter was the husband of Marguerite, who preceded him in death, and the uncle of Arthur and Diane Wydler, his brother Alfred's two children. He was always known as "Pud" to his family and close friends. Walter was always known for his intellect, ingenuity and electrical and mechanical skill. If something was broken, he would fix it; if he bought something, he would soon take it apart, make it better and then rebuild it. During the Korean War, Walter joined the military on December 4, 1950 and was stationed in California. After the war, on August 22, 1956, Walter left the military and returned to his home in St Louis. He lived at home with his parents, who were both ill and cared for them until their death. After their death, Walter's only family was in California, but he refused to move there, stating that his home would always be in Missouri. While living in St Louis, Walter worked as a machinist and mechanic for General Electric, Volvo Cars and Nissan North America. After his parents died, Walter eventually moved to Lake of the Ozarks and lived in his lake front house that he had owned for many years. While living at the lake, Walter worked as a mechanic fixing boats and recreational vehicles. It was while living at the lake that Walter met and married Marguerite. They lived first at Osage Beach and then in Montreal, MO. After Marguerite died, Walter returned to Osage Beach. It was while living in Osage Beach that Walter would become close friends with Don and Rusina Hoffman. As Walter's health began to deteriorate, Walter became dependant on both Don and Rusina and without their care Walter would not have been able to live his independent life as long as he did. Don and Rusina were like family to him. Walter was always a kid at heart; he had a long history of building and flying model airplanes; building and driving model boats; he liked to collect and restore historic and unusual cars and motorcycles and as always, fixing whatever was broken. He always enjoyed reading mysteries and had a passion for working puzzles and brain teasers. Walter's kindness, intellect and subtle humor will never be forgotten and more importantly, will sorely be missed. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2008 in Allee Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., Thursday in the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
